“All Saints Day"

Please join us for worship on November 4, when we celebrate All Saints Day. We will honor those members who left this earth to join their Heavenly Father in the past year. They include Nancy Ann Nichols, Jerrold Leon Satterlee, and Robert Norman Butler

The Lord redeems the life of his servants; None of those who take refuge In him will be condemned.                 Psalm 34:22

Headstart News

The Ionia Head Start has two new teachers this year, Mel, Lisa and Renee. We look forward to working with them and hope to continue our ongoing support. Thanksgiving pies will be purchased from the Mission Committee for the 50 families. We include a flier with our church’s info/events and a Thanksgiving prayer. The staff distribute the pies which is greatly appreciated. Keep in mind their need for children’s coats, hats and mittens. They can be gently used and placed in the shopping car. Boys and girls sizes 4 or 5.

SEEK

Do you remember the song “Seek Ye First” found in our hymnal and in countless more across the globe? I heard that it’s been sung at church-based youth camps. Sometimes it is sung like a round with overlapping parts (as common for the kids’ song “Row Row Your Boat”). Here are the first two verses:

Seek ye first the Kingdom of God
And His righteousness
And all these things shall be added unto you
Allelu Alleluia
Man shall not live by bread alone
But by every word
That proceeds from the mouth of God
Allelu Alleluia

Read on as Karen Lafferty tells her story of composing this signature song which now helps to support a ministry.

What was the origin of "Seek Ye First"?

“It was back in 1971. I had quit my entertainment j ob and was trying to support myself with teaching guitar lessons. I had three students! When my savings were all gone and I had no money to make my car payments, I became very discouraged and confused. “One evening I went to a Bible study at church, and we talked about Matthew 6:33.1 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. was tremendously encouraged and challenged by the words about Christ's kingdom. So I went home, wrote the tune, recorded it on a tape recorder, and then sang this little descant part [high harmony part].”

“I taught the song at church the next week, and it caught on right away. The Lord really paved the way for me with that song. "Seek Y e First" has opened doors for me all over the world. And because it's in so many hymnboo ks, about 40 percent of my mission support comes from that song!”

Karen founded Musicians For Missions International (MFMI) in 1981. She adds, “God has called me to be a ‘Musicianary’; to seek those places where others aren’t going and to disciple the national musicians who can then rea ch their own nations. I believe there are other Christian musicians with that calli ng too.” MFMI’s goal is to work with the local churches to facilitate these musicians into ministry, especially “missions.” It is part of the Youth With a Mission ministry across the globe.

What about the youth right here in our communities?

Musicianary: A missionary whose primary too is one of music, using songs to spread the Gospel.

How can we use music to spread the Gospel to the young, the old, and the in-betweeners inside and outside our homes and church?
